Catherine Handschuh

Biology

My name is Catherine Handschuh and I teach biology and AP Environmental Science.

Though born in Virginia (just outside D.C.), I moved to California when I was almost 3 years old and grew up in San Jose.

I studied biological anthropology at UC Santa Cruz and earned a Master of Science in anthropology at the University of Toronto. My studies focused on human anatomy/physiology, adaptation, and growth and development.

I became a teacher because I really enjoyed being a T.A. and working with students. I received my teaching credential from San Jose State University.

This is my 12th year at Lincoln High School. I am really excited to be working in PBL pod this year. I think that PBL is a great way to engage in students in real world issues while covering important content material. I think collaborating across the curriculum is going to be a very unique and enriching experience for both my students and myself.

Born and raised in Madison, Wisconsin, I still do have Midwestern habit of saying “Sorry” all the time. After graduating from University of Wisconsin – Madison, I moved to Oakland with a dream, a Uhaul, and not much else. I worked at California College of the Arts in Administration before earning my teaching credential and Masters in English Education at Stanford University. I’m joining the pods because besides its students, Lincoln staff is filled with talent; our students can only benefit when we combine more of that brilliance.
